Being a Professional Poker Player (TM) like myself is a tough job at times. There’s a lot to remember. I have to remember to value bet my nuts. I have to remember that if it weren’t for bad beats that I’d always win. I have to remember that my final course for my MS is a project course that I cannot petition out of.

Uh…

So, yeah, my plans have changed a bit thanks to a timely call from my advisor. She noted that I was nearing graduation and wanted to touch base. I calmly told her that if I got these last two petitions done in time I’d be done at the end of summer. She then calmly asked if I was taking the capstone class in summer. Capstone class? Oh crap…

Needless to say I now have one petition to finish and two classes to take. You’d think that, as a graduate student and Professional Poker Player (TM) who has heard about such complex topics as “pot odds” and “EV”, I would have remembered that.

Anywho…What this means is that I played poker Thursday night.

I was in the mood for something different, and I remembered that other Professional Poker Players (TM) like myself like to play at Stars, so I headed over there. I have some, like $500 worth, bonus to work off anyway and there’s double points time, so I figured, “What the hell.”

I went on a good run early at the 1/2 NL tables, then proceeded to give it all back plus more. It was not my best night ever, I’m pretty sure it was due to bad beats though.

It was good to get back to playing though. Now I just have to remember how to win a hand. The competition didn’t seem any tougher and Stars was reporting 50K people on the site which is quite amazing. I’m just glad to play again for the first time in almost 2 weeks.

New Poker Show

Foxs Sports will showing a new poker tournamet, the Ultimatebet.net World Poker Challenge, on Saturday night at 11PM (remember, Fox Sports times are all local, so it’s 11PM your time). It’s been filmed at the swanky Hollywood Park Casino in scenic LA.

This is the same casino where Henry said to me, “Most of the time you don’t have to worry about walking the parking lot, but we’ll valet anyway.” Evidently you can still qualify for upcoming tournaments/shows.

See information about it at UltimateBet.net.

Well, the other thing I didn’t tell you is that a buddy who plays high limit there usually takes “3-4 laps around the casino after a big session to make sure no one is following me”. But I’ve never had any problems.

Best wishes on the finishing up with the higher ed. The tuition for this school of life thing is already about as much as I can handle at the moment. :)
Sounds kind of like me back in college though - “that paper’s due when?!”
