OIC Day 21

Balance: $48.16 (-$23.25 from previous)
Ranking: ?/?
Level: 50/1

I’m back to 50/1. Oh joy.

I played the OIC for about an hour last night, right before playing in the TOEJAM tournament. I was seated to the right of a serial raiser, which while good if you have a good hand, makes it impossible to limp in. I should have excercised some table selection, but I figured that unless I went on a roll that I wasn’t going to play for very long and there was a waiting list for the 1-2 tables. It was a night of pretty poor play if you want to be honest about it. I know there were some suckouts, but that should go without saying. I had some cold cards, but I didn’t play the ones I got very well either. I don’t blame the cards, I just didn’t play well.

I also started up a SNG after TOEJAM started. I was in the top three or four the whole time until it got down to five. I was in the SB and the BB was all in with the blinds. I look and see TT, huge hand when shorthanded. It’s folded around to the button who min-raises. I figure he’s trying to steal my blind and I wouldn’t defend because the BB was already all in. No sir, I push. I’m insta-called (again!) and he flips over aces. Ug. I go home in fourth. I’m not sure if that was the right thing to do there or if I just got unlucky.

I may take a day or two off. I have had a terrible run of cards and I just don’t seem “into” it right now. I’ve been getting frustrated at the table which cannot be good. I hate to do it now, with only 10 days of the OIC left, but I need to get at least one day to recharge a bit. Maybe I’ll do it Thursday as I like a lot of TV on that night. I need to get back in the groove a bit and get my game sharpened again. I’m getting my copy of SSH back on Thursday, so I can brush up on some things again right in time for the homestretch of the OIC.

I also really need to get refreshed on my SNGs. I went on a bit run early in the month but the last week has been brutal. I’m sure it’s normal variance, but I need to re-examine some of that too. They’ve still been very profitable for me. The key words there are “for me”, I’m sure many of you make way more than I did just on your normal games, but for me, I still had a great month, at least for me.

I think your blog is very good. However, you bankroll does not allow u to play at the high limits that you are playing at.

You are right the variance will kill your bankroll.

    Its poker

  2. The OIC is a challenge that is designed to have you move up when you win 50BB. You start with $50 and go up a level every time you earn 50BB. The original $50 is backed by the poker site so it’s a no lose situation. It is not my normal way of playing, but instead is a (potential) way to get you to try higher levels even for just a little while.

I have been having a lousy run too. Good luck bringing you OIC roll back up! May the Force be with you! heh.

When a bad run hits like that it can be demoralizing - I know the map of that territory by heart. You’ll get back on track - you know you will. The end result of the OIC may not be what you expect it to be. I suspect you’ll come away from it with something more valuable in the long run - namely a greater understanding of your play. When you unleash that at the tables after the OIC I’d wager you’ll be seeing that bankroll become upwardly mobile in short order. 8^)

Sidenote: Any wagers on your “Survivor’ namesake making it to the end?

  5. Thanks Maudie. I agree and I am looking at the OIC as a learning process. Obviously I’d like to make some money, but if I can improve my game a bit because of it then that is good too.

Regarding Survivor, I have almost given up this season. I just cannot get into it. I’ll watch tonight and give a better opinion :)
