Just a recap in case you don’t already know about it…
This weekend (August 6 and 7), a group of us will be meeing at Trump Casino in Gary, IN (outside Chicago). Anyway, if anybody wants to come, feel free. I’m not exactly sure when I’ll get down there, the last thing at the track I’ll be watching finishes at 3:00. I guess it kinda depends on how far away it is from, say Milwaukee, since I know it takes me an hour to get from the track (Elkhart Lake, an hour North of Milwaukee) to Milwaukee. Any help here would be good, I’m hearing it’s about 4 hours. I’m going to need a shower when I get there, so if anybody wants to split a room or something I’d be very interested, especially since I plan on just using it to clean up and sleep for a couple hours before jumping on the road again.
I’ll be wearing a black Ferrari cap (black cap, traditional yellow Ferrari logo on the front). Maybe I’ll try to pick up a Twins jersey before I leave to show my civic pride and to fit in with LordG and his Tigers jersey. It’d probably be good if some cell phone numbers were swapped (emai/IM me), but more importantly, I’m looking to split a room
Here’s a recent 2+2 thread on the casino, including the call ahead number: 2+2 thread. What are the crowds like? Should I call ahead while I’m on the road? If so, where abouts should I be before I call? The thread says that it’s advisable to do so.
Bloggers, readers, whoever, show up! Those of you in Chicago should definitely not wuss out. I’m driving probably close to six hours that day to be there, not to mention a total of about 12 the next day, so don’t give me any “It’s on the other side of town” BS. Take off the skirt and get out and have some fun, meet some new people and hopefully win some money.
For this event I’m out. I have a family reunion which I can not get out of (I did try for what it’s worth).
Hey Chris,
If you know any Java Applet guys in the NH area let me know. I am looking and will pay a bonus if they get placed. I need two people, preferably with Java Applet Animation experience. $200 per head for a placement if you know anyone.
Dude, rooting for Schumacher and Ferrari is like rooting for the IRS during an audit.
Hey Chris,
I enjoy reading your blog. I live in Chicago and can report that the Trump’s poker room is quite nice. On the weekend it will typically have 4 0r 5 3/6 holdem games - 2 or 3 5/10 holdem games, 2 10/20 holdem games, a no limit $ 200 buy in game (minimum), and a low limit stud game or 2. Rooms at the Trump hotel are not expensive. The floor people are mostly pleasant and the games range from soft (3/6, 5/10) to tight (10/20).
In addition, the room fills up Friday evenings, and is crowded normally throughout the weekend. You can call an hour ahead of your arrival to be put on any lists you are interested in. Harrah’s has a casino about 2 miles away, with an inferior buy busy poker room as well. Word to the wise, there can be a lot of traffic in Chicago on fridays fom three p.m. on if you are planning on driving through there from Milwaukee.
I haven’t driven to Milwaukee in about five years but Chicago traffic indeed eats it raw. There’s a new car ferry across the lake from Milwaukee to Muskegon that I read fills up because of how horrid it is to drive around through Chicago.
I’ve never had to call ahead for a table but I’ve always got there early; in the evenings calling ahead might be wise.
I think the signs actually say “Buffington Harbor Casinos” rather than anything super-useful, and I’m not sure how the exit will work from that direction, but it’s pretty screwy from the direction I come.
I haven’t arranged for a room yet because I’m a big lazy bastard, but rooms are indeed cheap. If Gil comes I probably won’t have a spare bed, but if he doesn’t I have no problem in splitting a room.
Good luck. I look forward to a full trip report!
Thanks everybody…
I’m heading down Saturday, so I’ll probably call ahead.
Count on a trip report.
Sloejack, we’ll let it slide. This time…
Thanks again everybody, should be fun.
Damn I wish I could join you! My brother lives in Chicago. Maybe I’ll try to get him to hook up with you guys. He’s blogged a few times over at UFP.
