Nothing too exciting happening this week. I’ve been doing my homework early since I’m going to be busy the rest of the week. I have, however, been playing quite a bit. Well, by “quite a bit” I mean time wise as the site is super slow. It’s like a requirement that at least 2 people at any given table must take 90% of their time to act. It’s just unreal. The upside is that they still don’t make good decisions. Things went pretty good, I miscounted the bonus hands, but I cleared it tonight exactly even (ie. my ending balance was my starting plus the bonus). Ug. I did well earlier in the night, but then got caught on the river a couple of times in a later session. But as TJ says, “That’s poker”.
No worries, things are still going well. I feel I am playing well. I cannot load the hand histories into Poker Tracker yet (not yet supported), so I can’t say for sure, but I feel like things are holding OK. I played this round about half 1/2 and half 2/4. Things were fine at both. I haven’t played on Party in about a month and I miss their software. I am, however, still surrounded by terrible players. Despite playing well (at least most of the time), I didn’t end up as well as I had hoped.
To help my game out I picked up Small Stakes Hold ‘Em. I’ve only read about 30 pages and it’s already making me think. I’ve read a lot of Ed Miller on 2+2, so I was already more or less aware of his high level concepts, which basically boils down to “be aggressive and don’t fold to one bet”, but his explanations and examples are great. I can’t wait to dig into this more. I still am too weak. The sad thing is that I know it, and I’ll hover over “Raise”, sigh, then move it to “Call” because I’m not sure. Then at other times, I’ll lead out betting when I’m pretty sure I’m beat and then call down the river. Miller has info on that too saying in general that’s not the worst thing you can do. I just need to get more consistent. If you’re aggressive at these low levels you can make a ton. The maniacs are there and will call you down with anything. Yes, you’ll get sucked out on, but you’ll win so much more that it won’t matter. So when am I going to remember this when I’m playing and actually do it? *sigh*
Going to be a busy rest of the week with no poker involved. Thursday night I am heading to watch the Twins play the Yankees. I’m not a big baseball fan, but I know that the Twins are in first. I also like the Yankees, so it should be fun. Even better is that we’ll be in a suite. The Metrodome sucks in terms of atmosphere, so a suite is actually something to look forward to. It’s not a great suite for baseball (it’s on the 45 yard line for football though, the owner of the suite used to be an owner of the Vikings), but hey, it’s all free and it’s for my brother’s wedding.
Friday has me at the rehearsal and groom’s dinner. Fun, fun, fun.
Saturday is the big day. I’m in the wedding so I’ll be busy all day and then drunk all night. Mrs. H is already rolling her eyes.
Sunday is recovery day. Watch some NASCAR (that’s right, just deal with it) and then play at the WPBT IV tourney. I had to reinstall Pacific and make a deposit to make sure I could actually play. Don’t forget the bounty on my head. Hopefully I won’t have to pay up
Oh, I found my copy of the Big Lebowski (my brother had it), so life is complete again.
No more updates until at least Sunday. Have a good weekend.
Chris, Have you read WLLHE by Lee Jones? If you have, I’d love to hear how you think the two books compare. I’m about 3/4s through WLLHE right now and am planning on picking up SSHE when I get the chance.
