Well, maybe “a plenty” is too much, but in the last 24 hours I’ve secured seats in two home games.
First off is a tourney that somebody posted in 2+2. Evidently the summer months make it hard to fill all the seats so the host posted about it. I’m going to try it out and hopefully make it a regular game. That is unless I get destroyed
It’s a $20 NLHE, unlimited $20 rebuys until first break and one $10 add on. It’s about 5 minutes from my house, so it would be nice to have a close game to go to once in a while. I’m sure it’s -EV, but we’ll see.
The second one will be interesting. Around 3PM yesterday a coworker came up and asked me about poker. He’s planning on throwing together a game at his new house and came to me since I’m the resident “expert” (scary, huh?). I tried to get some info on what he wanted to do (tourney, ring game, etc.) and he didn’t know. He liked the idea of a tourney, but didn’t want people sitting around with nothing to do. When I tried to explain escalating blinds he gave me the deer in the headlights look. “Blinds? What are those?” Hmm…The list of people invited to this has exactly one other person who knows anything about poker and he doesn’t really know much. They want to play HE though, since that’s what they’ve seen on TV. Gotta love it. I told him I’d give a little clinic at the start of the night to get everybody up to speed. I’ll also print of some hand ranking charts and have those handy. This could be interesting. I’ll either clean up or get blown away by major suckouts. Either way it should be fun. This one should be +EV, but we’ll need to figure out what level people are willing to play at. I’m guessing it will be pretty low, 50/1 or something as it’s more of a social event. I’m sure I could make more if I stayed at home, but I need to get out and socialize more, so I’ll definitely go. The problem is that his place is further away than the casino. Oy! He better have good booze
Best of luck. Home games and B&M play gives you an excellent chance to read live players and pick up on tells, etc. Online, you have to play the cards more than the player… in real live games, you play the player more. Keep me update.
